Whole life insurance includes both cash value and protection. This policy has a term policy and an investment component. The investments can be anything from bonds, funds or stocks. The investment component builds up cash value that you can withdraw or borrow against.

Whole life insurance is expensive. You pay for both the actual insurance and the investment portion.
